How Do I View A Wish List

Important !  When buying a gift for someone from their wish list, always  log in.  This will give you access to the 'View Friends Wish List' option available when you click on your UserName... in the menu bar (which you can only access when you are logged in).  This way you can see if anyone else has bought the gift you are going to buy AND you can let other friends and family know that you have bought a particular gift.  Note that the recipient cannot see their own wish list in this way, so the element of surprise is still there.  See option 2, below, for more details. How do I view a wish list?

There are three options which allow you to view a wish list, each of which will be explained in detail.

  1. Use the 'View Wish Lists' option on the main menu bar
  2. Use the 'View Friend's Wish List' option when you click your UserName... on the menu bar (Requires Log In)
  3. Use the 'My Wish List' option when you click your UserName... on the menu bar (Requires Log In)

Note that when you add a gift to your wish list you can decide exactly who gets to see what items on your gift list. There are three selection criteria:

Who can see items on my Gift List

Option 1: Use the 'View Wish Lists' option on the main menu bar

This option is great if you want to share your gift list with as many people as possible. It is especially useful if most of your gifts have been marked for "Everyone" to see. The person viewing does NOT need to be registered, approved, or even logged in. They only need to know the "Username" of the person whose list they want to view.

However there are some restrictions:

  1. You will only be able to see gift items that have been marked for "Everyone" to see.
  2. You will NOT be able to see items marked "All Friends and Family".
  3. You will NOT be able to see items marked "Only selected friends and family"
  4. You will NOT be able to see which items have already been purchased, and therefore if you are buying a gift on the list you may purchase a gift that has already been purchased.
  5. You will NOT be able to mark a gift item as one that you "Have Bought" or "Intend to Buy".

Note: if you intend to buy a gift for someone who has a wish list, it is STRONGLY recommended that you login and use Option2: the 'View Friend's Gift List' option under the 'My Account' tab. There are many important features that you will wish to take advantage of.

Option 2: Use the 'View Friends Wish List' option when you click your UserName... on the menu bar

You MUST be logged in to use this option. In addition you MUST have made a request to the person whose list you want to see AND that person MUST have approved your request.

There are many advantages to using this option to view a Wish List:

  1. You can see all gifts marked for "Everyone".
  2. You can see all gifts marked for "All Friends and Family".
  3. You can see gifts marked for "Selected Friends and Family", if the list owner has selected you to view the gift item.
  4. You can see which gift items have already been purchased and thus avoid buying a duplicate item.
  5. If you have purchased a gift or intend to purchase a gift from the list then you can mark that item has 'Have Bought'. This will prevent someone else who views the list from buying that same item.
  6. The owner of the list is not permitted to see his/her own list with this option, thus maintaining the element of surprise, as he/she does not know which items have been purchased.

Option 3: Use the 'My Wish List' option when you click your UserName... on the menu bar

You MUST be logged in to use this option. This is how you view and maintain your own wish list.

This option allows you to:

  1. View your own wish list.
  2. Add / Update / Delete Gift Categories.
  3. Add / Update / Delete Gift Items.
  4. Sort the order in which Gift Categories are displayed.
  5. Sort the order in which Gift items are displayed within their respective categories.
  6. The Gift item Update also allows you to move a gift item to a different category.
  7. Decide who can see what gift items on your list.
  8. Add or update pictures for each gift item.
